Style My Way | Eyelet in the sky

Wednesday, June 24, 2020

When you shop for new clothes do you typically have something in mind that you are looking for, or do you just buy whatever jumps out at you?
I typically don't buy anything I just see as I shop.
I go to stores or sites with the intent to find an item that I have pictured in my head.

So when I headed to Target the other day I was looking for an eyelet top of some sort.
I actually picked up the exact same top in two different colors since you aren't able to use the dressing rooms right now.
Honestly, I wasn't giving the navy one much thought.
In my mind I was going to wear the white version.
Well, to my surprise I really liked the navy one so much more!

I paired it with some simple white chino shorts and sandals for an evening with friends.
It was perfect!

Navy Eyelet Top - Available in white & rose as well.
Straw Sandals - similar

Earrings (shown below)

Which is your favorite way to shop - In store or online?

Thanks as always for stopping by!

Vacation Packing Tips

Wednesday, June 17, 2020

Is it just me, or does everyone over pack when going on vacation?
You just never know what mood you will be in, how you are feeling that day, etc.
Today I have a few packing tips for you that will help you stay less stressed when packing for vacation, and will keep your hubby off your back ;)

1. Pick a color theme
I have especially done this when we have to travel out of town for a wedding.
I almost always wear a dress for the wedding that fits the colors of the wedding (without looking like I'm in the wedding).
From there I build my additional outfits needed for the rest of the days.
My dress was brown for a wedding we attended in Michigan, so I selected all outfits and shoes that had a brown base.

Another time (most the time), I picked black as my base.
Most people have black and brown in their wardrobe, so it should be easy to use those.
If you are someone that has a lot of blue, green or any other color - you could use those as your base colors.
The possibilities are endless.

2. Plan out each outfit
If we are going to be gone for 10 days, I plan a full outfit for each day.
That means top & shorts (or dress), underwear, bra, socks (if needed), and shoes.
I even pack them as outfits if I am going somewhere where I have to work out of my suitcase instead of a closet or dresser.

I'm a shorts girl when going somewhere warm for vacation.
If laundry isn't an option, I pack at least one pair of shorts for each day (from take-off to return).
From there I plan a casual top with each of them.
I know I won't be going out to fancy dinners each day, so I pick about 3-4 dressier tops that will also pair with some of the shorts I am bringing.
Don't have enough shorts for each day?

Throw a few dresses into the mix and you are good to go!

3. Limit jewelry and accessories
This one is easy for me because I don't wear a lot of jewelry.
But if you like to, try to stick with inexpensive pieces in case they get lost/taken/broken.
Pair a couple necklaces, bracelets, earrings that go with the majority of the items you are packing so you can mix and match throughout your vacation.
I also try to stick to just a couple of hats or handbags that go with everything.

3. Pick no more than 5 pairs of shoes that can go with the outfits
I try to have the following shoes with me on when going to the beach for vacation.
Sneakers
Flip flops (beach/pool only)
Black and/or brown casual sandals
Nicer pair of sandals that fit my color theme

I used to bring a small laundry basket full of sandals on vacation every year when I first met Mic.
I realized I don't need all those.
Plus, by not packing all those extra shoes it gives you some room in the car or your suitcase to bring home something new :)

These tips are definitely easier when you can predict the weather for where you are going on vacation.

One last tip I have for you...
Always over pack underwear!!!
You will never regret having too many ;)

Thank you so much to Andrea @ Living on Cloud Nine for the idea for this post today :)

PinSpiration | Cozy Cool

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

It's time for another week of PinSpiration!
We dressed down for work recently and I thought this outfit was perfect!
I found these images on Pinterest and knew I had similar items in my closet to recreate the looks.

Obviously, since I was going into the office I wasn't going to be walking around barefoot ;)

Cream Cardigan - Similar
Gray Jeans - Similar
Black Tank - Similar
Booties - Similar
Necklace - Similar

I switched out the tank color just because that is what worked best for me.

I absolutely loved how this recreation turned out!
I felt completely pulled together for our dress down day, as well as ready for whatever else the day threw at me :)

Now it is your turn!
Link up your style/fashion post below :)

PinSpiration | 'Cause Pink Is The New Kind Of Lingo

Wednesday, January 8, 2020

Today I decided to mix my love of music with fashion!
Honestly, I was trying to come up with a good blog title and nothing really was working for me.
So I decided to look for songs with colors and it just worked.
At least for me it did ;)
Today's lyric is courtesy of Aerosmith.

I can't believe that I am kicking off my first PinSpiration post of the year with something pink!
It is one of my least favorite colors :/
But when I was looking through my Pinterest boards for something to recreate for work I found these photos.

I actually love the look of gray and a soft pink together!
I knew immediately that I had a pink pair of pants
that would be perfect.
And my gray sweater is quite a few years old from Stitch Fix, but it is so easy to throw on for work on cold days.

I skipped the scarf like the first picture since this sweater has a nice big turtleneck on it.
I threw on my creamy white boots and added a black bag like the second inspiration photo above.

Perfect business casual look for me at the office :)

Similar Boots - Modern Cowboy, Ankle Bootie

I would love for you to join me every Wednesday with your PinSpiration outfits!
Just find an image on Pinterest (or really anywhere on the internet) and recreate it with items you already have in your closet.
As you can see above, it doesn't have to be perfectly matched to the inspiration photo.
Use what you already have and make it your own!
Just have fun with it!

No problem!

Give Green A Chance | Style Link Up

Wednesday, March 20, 2019

I have always liked the color green.
Fun fact about me...when it came time to order my class ring in high school I actually ordered a green stone instead of my favorite color red.
I still don't know why :/

Now that you know that useless fact, let's move on with all things green.
I'm over on The Blended Blog today sharing a couple things I wore this year for St. Patrick's Day, as well as some fun green pieces that are perfect for Spring and Summer.
Make sure you head there to check those out as well as link up your blog posts with us.

Since I don't want to repetitive in this space I am sharing a few green accessories that are perfect for celebrating your Irish heritage or just because you like the color green!

These beauties are only $10 (including shipping)!
They come in a variety of different colors and shapes, but these green ones just scream Spring to me!

These Layered Tassel Earrings are only $15 and would add some pizazz to any simple outfit.

These Shamrock Stud earrings are for my true Irish friends!
These are sterling silver and made in Ireland!
So cute!

What green accessories do you have in your collection?
Is green your favorite color?
I would love to see how you rock it!

Highlight Your Assets | Style Link Up

Wednesday, January 23, 2019

Today is all about what looks good on your body type.
While I may not be a expert in this field, these are the styles that have come to look better than others on my ever evolving shape.

While my husband isn't a huge fan of them, basically all the V-neck tops work best for me.
Don't get me wrong, I do own other tops that aren't v-necks.
And I am not just picking them because of my name ;)
They just elongate my body better.
And my teenage self wants to kick me for saying this right now,
but I don't look as busty.

Which goes hand in hand with the next thing I'm about to say....
Nothing bulky...it just adds extra pounds all other.
Lightweight fabrics are one of my best friends!

I tend to wear things that are slightly looser, but nothing too baggy.
Those ever popular over sized sweatshirts just won't work on me.
When you have curves you just need to keep clean, simple lines that move with your body shape yet don't cling to it.

All my tees are Target - Universal Thread and my sweater is Old Navy.

It is totally the opposite for me on the bottom half of things!

I have a love/hate relationship with skinny jeans and leggings.
I would love to balance out my curvy hips with boot cut styles or even flares, but I have super skinny ankles/calves that work really well for skinny styles.

I probably own some skinny jeans in about every color except purple...I think I need to change that!

Seriously, I have dark washes, black, distressed, white, gold, pink, grays, greens, etc.

Oh look, is that some skinny jeans paired with a v-neck top?

It is ;)

All my jeans are Articles of Society - Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack, or Old Navy.

And when I am not wearing the above uniform in some way, shape or form...I am rockin' a just above the knee dress.

Again, lightweight materials are a must!
I am able to get away with something a little more shapeless when it comes to dresses thankfully.
Just showoff those ridiculously skinny ankles and I'm good to go ;)
In all seriousness, my skinny ankles and heels can be troublesome with it comes to shoe shopping.
I can't find shoes that will stay on my feet!
I walk out of so many of them!
So unless they tie, are super snug through the rest of the foot, or don't have a back at all I typically can't wear them.
So now you know why you basically never see me in flats :/

Enough about me...I want to hear what clothing items work best for you!

Winter Outerwear | Style Link Up

Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Winter hasn't completely hit us yet (fingers crossed this year will be extremely mild),
but I still have been wearing the same winter coat I rocked all last winter.
It's strange really.
Due to our living circumstances, I am doing things totally different than I normally would.
I have been wearing the same exact winter coat every single day that I need to wear a coat.
That is so unlike me.
I have a thing for coats.
In years past I have been known to get 2, 3, even 5 new coats that are winter only coats.
I just love them!
I typically switch out what coat I wear every single day!
Sometimes even throughout the day I change them.
I was the same way with purses!

So back to my winter outerwear.
This coat right here is the one I wear 90% of the winter months.

That other 10% of the time I wear this one.

#givemeallthecamo

Both are last year, but I this is the lightweight version for this year.
The longer version above is also pretty light weight, but it is a little warmer and provides more coverage.

I keep things simple with a solid beanie and matching gloves :)

This picture is old, but I still wear that exact hat.
Similar beanies

I also scored my Sorel boots on major sale last year and wear them all winter long!

Once the salt gets thrown down on the roads and sidewalks I leave my "work" shoes at the office and just wear these bad boys to and from work each day.
They are a bit heavy, but are so worth it since they keep my feet toasty!
The price tag is scary at first, but I have already worn them so much I justified that price a long time ago.

What does your winter outerwear look like?

How cold does it get where you live?
Do you get snow?
I would love to see your winter style and hear your answers below!
