Let's Stay Home | Updates & Lighting

Thursday, June 18, 2020

Hello and Happy Thursday!
It's Let's Stay Home time!
Today I am sharing some updates that have been going on at our house, as well as looking for some lighting feedback from you all.

If you are new around here, check out the posts below to catch up on our whole home renovation/new build process first.
You will be amazed by the before pictures!

Now on with the updates!

Both upstairs bathrooms have been tiled and grouted!!
I think the floor in X's bathroom is my favorite!
It is hard to tell in the pictures, but we went with a medium gray grout for the white subway tiles in both bathrooms.

Glass also still needs to be put in each shower/bath space.
And don't mind the fact that everything is super dusty right now ;)

Now that the tile work is done(for now)...
Our builder is working from the second floor and moving his way down, so I'm impatiently waiting for my pantry door to be hung ;)

All bedroom and bathroom doors have been hung and trim is now being put up as well :)
Everything will get nails filled in and a final coat of paint as well.
I am so glad we went with the wall color for all the trim pieces.

Loved seeing the windows in our closet with trim on them as well!
(Completely forgot to turn the lights on when I took these pictures, and to brighten them. #bloggerfail)

And here is the current state of the outside of the house.
That existing space will get tackled with new siding, shingles, etc. once the inside is all done.

Now onto my lighting question for you all.
Here are the lights we purchased to go above our kitchen island and dining table area.
We will have two of these larger lights (5 bulbs) above our dining table space.

And then three of this 2 bulb version will be above our kitchen island.

We have been storing these lights for a long time. lol!
Looking for lights is not fun at all to me.
Possibly, because I don't like about 95% of what is out there.
So based on those lights above, I need to find complimentary lighting for our sconces and our foyer light.

Here is a very beginner mock up of the lighting styles I am leaning towards.

Our foyer light isn't 100% in the line of sight with the wooden lights in the kitchen and dining room.
Also, those lights look much darker in person - more black than bronze on the metal pieces, and slightly darker wood.
Just the sconces will be near both lights.
We want an antler chandelier in the foyer, but I have yet to find one I love.
Thoughts?

That is all for today friends!

Let's Stay Home | Insta Home Inspiration

Thursday, May 21, 2020

I know most of us have been "stuck" at home, but it feels like the last month flew by!
Is it just me feeling that way?

Today I decided to take things a different route.
I wanted to share some of my favorite home decor accounts that I follow on Instagram.
And I would love for you to share the home accounts you follow in the comments below as well!
There are so many out there, so I know I'm not following them all...yet 😉

Here are some of my favorites that are giving me all kinds of inspiration for when we get back in our new house.

Stephanie and her family recently moved into this stunning new build.
She has a Building 101 highlight that is great to check out as well!

@BARCbyBrettandAli

I love checking out what they are changing up next!
And it's always fun to follow someone in Ohio :)

I have no idea how I found these next two ladies, but I am so glad I did!
I just wish I knew about them sooner!
Nina and Cecilia are twins living in Iowa killing it in the new build and home decor area!
While Nina is currently building a new home (you must check out her last new build), Cecilia is living it up and styling her current home (before she builds a new home across the street from Nina).
And they are so fun to watch on TikTok as well 😊

@OurFauxFarmhouse

Holly & Brad literally took a spec home and are making it a gorgeous farmhouse!
They are currently redoing their stairs and I am loving every minute of it!

@TheHillaryStyle

Another black and white dream home in my world!

I just love everything about this home!
And those cute cats making an appearance is always a plus :)

And last but not least...

@LeeAnneBenjamin

Lee Anne shares a bit more home and style on her account than most of the others.
But she recently moved into her new home build with her family and it is amazing!
You must check out the garage space and her two-story closet!
#goals

You can't tell that I like a good black and white house can you? 😜

Now let me know what other home accounts I should be following below!
And don't forget to link up your home posts today with me.
Anything from DIY projects to home decor, and more!

Let's Stay Home | Renovation Update #5

Thursday, January 23, 2020

Welcome to my new home series...

Moving forward this series will be every third Thursday of the month.
I would love for you to join me each month sharing home decor, a favorite room, a DIY project, etc.

Today I am sharing a little update in our home build/remodeling project.

But first, in case you missed any of my home renovation posts, you can check them all out below.

So my last update we were ready for drywall to begin.
It is crazy to see real walls and defined spaces!
Prepare yourself for a lot of pictures of boring drywall.

Hello two story foyer! 😍

That scaffolding is sitting right where our dining room table will be.

The wall with the window will have a TV and family room space in line with the dining room table.

Heading up a few stairs into the kitchen 😊

The back wall will have lower cabinets with our range in the middle of the windows.
An island with the sink will be in the middle of the room.

Walk in pantry 🙌

Let's go upstairs to one of my favorite spaces in the house.

This landing area might just be my spot!
A TV and maybe a cozy lovesac are on my must have list for this area.

And I might be a little jealous of the closet in X's bedroom!

Mic loves the view of our property, so lots of the windows in the master bedroom, closet and bathroom were in order.

Again, sorry for all the boring drywall pics.
For me it is super exciting to see it all coming together!

Now it's your turn to link up your home posts!

Our Home Renovation | Kitchen Edition

Thursday, November 14, 2019

Today is all about the kitchen!
This will easily be my favorite room of the house when it is done.
Before we get into that, make sure you check out my previous posts about our home renovation below.

Now let's check out what we have planned for our kitchen.

These are the floors that will be in our kitchen.

Again, the floor above will be throughout the entire first floor of our home.

Honestly, our kitchen isn't anything out of the ordinary.
But trying to find pictures to describe it are virtually impossible!
I had snapped a pic of the computer screen about a year ago, so that is what I am sharing today.
The overall layout is the same, but colors and such aren't 100% accurate.

You will enter the kitchen from the family/dining room space by walking up a few steps.

Just like all the bathrooms and our closet, we will have all white cabinets with matte black counter tops.

The sink will be in the middle of the island, directly across from the slide-in range.
The range will sit on the back wall of the house with a window on each side.
Due to those windows (and having more space in our pantry), we decided to not have any upper cabinets on the back wall.

In the picture it shows a gray back splash, but it will actually be black brick from the counter top up. 😍😍
There will also be a wood beam that goes across the top above the stove covering the most of the vent hood.
This will tie in with the wood beams that will be in the family/dining space.

It's hard to see, but the lighting isn't correct either.
I currently have lighting picked out for the island that is similar to what I shared for in our dining room.

I'm still on the hunt for counter height stools.

We want something with a back to them since we will probably be using this space quite a bit.
I like a leather or fabric look to warm/soften the space a bit.
I found these as I was walking by, but I haven't found the ones yet ;)

It is crazy when I actually walk through the space right now and imagine the kitchen!

Do you have any good suggestions for where to find stools?
Let me know in the comments below :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Our Home Renovation | Family & Dining Room Edition

Thursday, November 7, 2019

Hello!
I'm back today with some dining room and family room inspiration.

If you missed any of my previous home posts just click below :)

Our dining room and living room spaces will be together, yet separate.
In the previous space it was a dining room with a space for sitting.
Here is how the previous space looked a couple of years ago...

We had our dining table and hutches in the room, mixed with our "nicer" couches.
Of course there was a TV in there ;)
(And that is because of me)

The new space will be bigger, but they will still be together.
The space will have pillars and wood beams near the ceiling that separate the areas.

That same dining table and chairs, as well as the two corner hutches will be in the designated dining room space.
The family room space will probably have the couches, chair and ottoman (shown above) until we find a new cozy sectional we like.
Loving this one below, but I have to get Mic on board ;)

Chelsea Symmetrical Modular Sectional with Ottoman

The family room space will have carpet, but we haven't decided on the exact one yet.

We did pick out the flooring that will be in the dining room, as well as throughout the whole first level of the home.

These are the exact floors (shown above) that we will have.
The color varies between brown and gray based on how light or dark the room is....which I LOVE!!!

I'm still undecided if I want a rug under our dining table or not.
I think I will have to wait until we are in the space to see what I like best.

We actually picked out some lights for the dining space awhile ago, but I'm not 100% sure on them right now.
I don't seem to light anything else any better, so for now they are still the front runners.

Cathey 4-Light Square/Rectangle Chandelier

The main reason I'm not 100% on those lights is because I'm not sure how they will look will the tone of our dining room furniture.
But we can always restain our furniture if it clashes :)

We are stilling trying to decide on sconces for the pillars throughout the space as well.
Why is lighting so hard to figure out?!?!

The walls will be painted a neutral gray throughout the entire space.

And that is it!
Pretty simple and neutral.
I'm sure we will add more color in accent pillows and such once we get settled :)

Thanks for stopping by today!
