Singing along to my favorite songs while in the car or when I am home alone is just absolutely freeing to me. Participating in karaoke has a similar effect, but also super scary at the same time (I do not like being the center of attention). I have always had a deep love for music....something again my dad passed on to me.
Ever since I was a young child my dad and I would pick out albums or CD's (dating myself here) to listen and sing along to with our loudest (and hopefully in tune) voices. We could make an evening out of it! It has always been an amazing time spent with him. Unfortunately, life has got in the way of getting to have those evenings with my dad. On the bright side, I have carried on the tradition with X. I know he is young and can't sing along yet, but it is so enjoyable to have that bonding experience with him. He has already given me indications of what songs (or even artists) he really likes! When he hears "Pontoon" by Little Big Town (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0O0nzkESTI) he stops EVERYTHING he is doing to watch the video and sometimes clap along! Of course I am singing along the whole time! :) Another favorite of his is "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJO3ROT-A4E). I think X's love of water has carried over into his favorite videos :) The best song to watch him listen to is the theme song to "The Big Bang Theory"( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X41bA4l-h0w). He actually "dances" and claps along to this one! It is hilarious and so cute!
I can't wait for X to get a little older so we can (hopefully) continue this parent/child tradition.
Here are just some of my favorite songs my dad and I always "Jammed Out" to :)
Scorpions, "Winds of Change" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4RjJKxsamQ
Shai, "If I Ever Fall In Love" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXNNVUuIDgc
Metallica, "Enter Sandman" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD-E-LDc384
White Lion, "When the Children Cry" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHZ79InLGRY
Bon Jovi, "Wanted Dead or Alive" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRvCvsRp5ho
We actually recorded the last two songs at a karaoke recording studio in Columbus! The Bon Jovi song was done when I was only 8 years old! I sound like a chipmunk in the recording, but I wouldn't trade that for the world!
Side note: My dad and I danced to Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" at my wedding. We were not about to dance to a song that didn't mean anything to us!
What are your favorite songs? Do you have any special songs that you have bonded over with a parent or child?
Until next time...
