Show & Tell | Home Tour

Linking up with Andrea @ Momfessionals for...

There are good, bad, and ugly homes.
And then there is my home.
It is rough!!!

If you are new around here, we moved into my husband's childhood home almost 2 years ago.
That home is a 40+ year old home in the country that has never, ever been updated.
We do not have a furnace or AC.
And as of this year, we have a pool that no longer is able to be used.

Thankfully, we are in planning mode currently for the remodel that we are (fingers crossed) to begin next Spring!

Today I am going to give you a very small peek into my home.
Honestly, it just isn't a space that I am proud of or that represents me so I don't like to show it.
I don't even invite friends over because to me, it is embarrassing.
Fingers crossed that will be changing soon!

So here it goes...

This is part of my kitchen.
Yes, that is a dish washer in the wall.
Believe it or not that dishwasher and microwave/oven combo are the only things in the ENTIRE house that have ever been updated in the life of the home (40+ years old).
And check out that giant space under the oven...
It is because they don't make anything to fit the space that was available, so there is just an open space :(

Oh, this cook top :(
I swear it will be the death of me!
Two burners people! That is it!
It is a 1976 Jenn Aire that of course does not have replacement parts available.
My in-laws told me they broke the other burner piece many years ago, but didn't feel the need to replace it because they didn't use them that much.
Honestly, these burners are so small my normal size pots and pans don't fit!

On to the pantry...

Again this home was built in the 70's.
They must have used A LOT of canned goods back then!
Most of the shelves can only hold items that are the size of a can of soup.
There are a couple taller shelves, but they are super narrow.
And things fall out all the time because there isn't a thick edge to hold things in place :(

I even have a bin on the counter to hold extra items that just can't seem to fit in there.

The other weird to me thing is the amount of windows and doors we have in this house!
Oh, and I can't forget about all the pink flooring.
Pink carpet, pink tile, pink tub, etc.

This picture was taken when my in-laws were in the process of moving out.
We even have a pink wall!

Like I said above, it is embarrassing.
But thankfully we are working on our plans for the remodel :)
Mic has been doing a lot of the design work through a computer program and it is pretty much done.
So now we are focusing on materials :)

We actually headed to a local shop over the weekend to check out samples and such.
Love the samples we brought home with us!

This is the look of the floor we are going for...

Here are a few more of the ideas we are planning on incorporating into our remodel...

Mic and I both LOVE these black pane windows!

So I seem to be in the minority on this one, but I absolutely love red brick!
I always have!
We have to have support columns throughout the house, so I would love them to be wrapped in red brick!

Actually, I am planning on having a red brick surround/arch over top of my stove :)

What do you think of red brick?
Do you prefer painted brick?

While there are definitely a lot more updates we are planning for the house, I will leave that for another day.
I will be posting the before, after, and in between photos when we get closer :)

One last thing on our list as of this year is a new pool.
We are thinking something super simple, low maintenance, and much more shallow than our current pool.

Have you remodeled your home?
Any tips, tricks, ideas, etc. you may have I would greatly appreciate!

And you can head here to check out all my posts about our old home :)

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my world :)

My hair is a mess to match my life...

Linking up with Andrea, Narci & Erika for...

Is it me, or do you find yourself disconnecting from your phone/camera since it is summer?
While taking pictures of my favorite people and things are great, I notice I am doing it less lately.

It could be that it is summer and I am just too stinkin' hot to do it.
Or it could be that I am coaching t-ball, so I can't be holding onto my phone while out on the field.
Or it could be that I am just trying to enjoy the moment and be in it.

I didn't take a single picture all weekend long!
We had t-ball, a birthday party and a graduation party all on Saturday and I never took my phone out.
Even on Father's Day it just laid there.

I will try to do better at taking some pics for this blog, but at the same time...#sorrynotsorry
as I enjoy living in the now :)

This month's Tuesday Talk had me asking a few What's Why's and more...
My not so favorite Why...

You know giveaways are always a favorite!
Well all summer long I will be giving away tickets to The MET Summer Encore Series to local Cleveland area theaters!
This week is MACBETH!

X has been attending Safety Town for the last two weeks and he has absolutely loved it!
From hopping in police cars, to checking out fire trucks and more...it has truly been one of his favorite weeks so far this summer!
Thursday morning they had a little graduation ceremony where they sang a few songs and received a medal and certificate for completing the program :)

Another week, means more Instagram, Facebook, and Sirius radio favorites :)

Please tell me you remember this song!
Oh, I just loved it as a kid!

And I feel I NEED this tee!

Package arrival  notices are my favorite!

I ordered a few pairs of shoes to try out and they arrived this week :)
Unfortunately, I haven't had time to actually try them on or take pictures yet...so they will be hitting the blog next week.

And that is it for this week!
We have more t-ball and more birthday parties this weekend!
Welcome to summer my friends!
Hope you all enjoy your weekend!

What, Why & more...

Linking up with Ashley & Erika for...

Today's randomness is a lot of What's, Why's and more.

What happened to the LIKE button on Pinterest and where did all my LIKED items go?
Actually, I found the answer here.
But it doesn't mean I like it :(
I loved that little heart button.

Thankfully, my likes aren't gone forever but I don't like not having that option anymore.

How do you feel about the big change on Pinterest?

Why is it such a big deal if I say we have a pool at our house?
And why is it some how cooler to go to a pool than to have one at your house?
When I was a kid we had a pool at our house.
Actually, so did most of my friends.
We swam All.The.Time!!!!
There was a community pool that you could join, but the only time I went there as a kid was to take swimming lessons before we put our pool in.

So fast forward to today and we have a pool at our house.
Reminder, this is Mic's childhood home and it is the same pool that he grew up with.
When he was a kid he had friends over from time to time, but they typically went to a community pool to see all their friends, flirt with girls, etc.
That seems so odd to me.
I am pretty cheap, so I can't imagine spending money on a membership to a community pool when you have one in your backyard.
Just invite those friends over!
Am I missing something?

Back to that first question...why is it weird if I say we have a pool?
We do have one.
Granted, right now it is a hot mess and not working correctly, but it is still there.

I told Mic how someone asked me what pool we belonged to and I said "we don't". And that we have an old one at our house.
He was like, "you don't tell someone you have one".
What the what?
Why not?
I am by no means bragging that I have one...I really laid it out how old it was.

Also, why do I feel like I am being looked down upon because I don't belong to a pool?
Ugh! I may never understand it :/

Do you have a pool at your house?
Do you belong to a community pool?
Am I am completely out of my mind on all of this?
Before you answer that last question, read the rest of this post ;)

Why is it so hard for some people to tell the truth?
Especially about something that won't hurt or upset someone!

Seriously, I get you don't want to hurt some one's feelings, but isn't the truth better than lying?

Please don't tell me you are going somewhere and then just don't show up because you never intended to go, but couldn't face just saying so.
Or don't tell you like something if you don't.
Etc, etc.!

Plain and simple....don't lie to me.
And don't try to sugar coat things either.
Give me the truth.
Trust me, I will respect you for it.

I felt very Peter Griffin like writing this post ;)

And now I want to know...What grinds your gears?

Be Happy, It Drives People Crazy!

Linking up with Andrea, Narci & Erika for...

Over the weekend X and I ran a few errands and had to make a stop in my least favorite store, Walmart.
However, they bumped themselves up my list when X and I were able to pick up some of our very favorite ice cream!
It is Toft's Super Duper Scoop, but it will always be #superman to us!

I also picked up a new, super cheap blender while we were there.
Side note: I picked up an amazing Ninja blender about year before we moved to our current home.
Unfortunately, ever since the move I can't find all the pieces to use it! :(
I do not believe they will be gone forever, but I really needed a blender.
So I grabbed a cheap one and immediately tested it out over the weekend by making my favorite summer cocktail :)

After going gaga over my Nickel & Suede earrings I picked up a few weeks ago, I was on the hunt for some more super lightweight options.
I found Leafy Treetop Leather Co on Etsy and immediately fell in love!
I ordered the mini camo tear drop ones and the distressed brown leather rectangles.
I swear they were here like 2 days later!
And they even came with another pair of earrings because they are celebrating their birthday!
You all know I have a thing for all things camo!
These are easily my most favorite earring I have ever owned!

I picked up X from the babysitter the other day and he stated they were watching Chopped on the Food Network.
He came home and couldn't wait to make something.
Does anyone else freak out when their kid wants to "cook"?
The mess, the wasted food, the time, etc. UGH!
Thankfully, we had a few things we could throw together and TA DA...strawberry parfaits!
I loved seeing how proud my favorite little guy was of himself!

I linked up with Andrea for Show & Tell Tuesday and talked about some of my daily struggles.
One of those being my love for my favorite treat...

Also on Tuesday, it rained. A LOT!
We had flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings from about 1-10pm!
I have never driven through so much standing water or flowing water!
This was our creek when X and I arrived home...

And this is how things looked about 10 minutes later...

Another 10 minutes and it was flowing across our driveway!
It was nuts!
Storms like this one are not my favorite!
Thankfully, there was no damage and we never lost power.
The rain stopped after awhile and all that water receded pretty quickly.

For Workin' It Wednesday, it was all about how to keep your kiddos entertained over the summer.
Simple, get a babysitter to handle it for you! lol!
Seriously, they are going to some of mine and X's favorite spots every week!

Another week, more Instagram Favorites :)

I have found myself listening to my Sirius radio on my phone a lot while I am at work.
This past week there have been quite a few throwback favorites getting me through the day :)

Localish ladies, don't forget to check out my giveaway yesterday for The Met summer series!

X has been attending Safety Town this week at his future elementary school and is loving it!
I mean, when you get to hang out with some of your favorite people - policemen and firemen - you know it is going to be a good week!
I decided to take off Thursday to get a few things done and hangout with him for a bit, so I surprised him by picking up some of his favorite blueberry donuts!

I wish you could smell the sweet sugary goodness through your screens because these truly are AMAZING!!!

When I was picking X up at the school they gave me this letter stating who his Kindergarten teacher will be!
We are so stinkin' excited for the school year to start!
We opened it in the car because we just couldn't wait!
Unfortunately, it stated he was attending Kindergarten in the afternoon and that is incorrect so we don't know if he will have this teacher or not :(
Fingers crossed this mix up is settled soon so we can get ready for what we anticipate to be his most favorite year of school yet!

And on that note, I am calling it a week!
We have a t-ball game, birthday party, and graduation party all on Saturday, and then it is time to celebrate our favorite dads on Sunday!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your Father's Day celebrations with the guys in your life!
