Weekend Reads & Such

Friday, March 29, 2013

It's (Good) Friday!!!!!

Since the weather is getting nicer and it is a holiday weekend, you might not have much time to do any reading. But if you do, here is a blog I think fits well with the Easter holiday and one that is just for fun...

Last night my husband, our friend TJ (not to be confused with JT..lol!) and I went to the (local) all-star high school basketball game (see more info here). Well, actually we went to the alumni game that was played first. Now that you know my obsession with high school sports, this should totally make sense that I would be super excited to go. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to follow our local teams since X was born....so the alumni game was right up my alley! I had read a local news article of some of the guys who would be playing in the game, but to my (pleasant) surprise there were a few there that weren't listed. My favorite high school player from when I very first moved here played last night! (If only you could see how big my smile is right now and how fast I am typing with excitement...I know, I am odd!) Yima Chia-Kur :) There were actually a couple bigger named guys who played last night as well like Jamie Feick and Nate Reinking....but of course since I didn't know them, all my giddiness was surrounding Yima :) All in all it was fun watching guys a little younger, my age, and older play the game. Heck, some of those old guys look like they are in better shape than me! Actually, I am pretty sure they are! A few local alumni cheerleaders were there as well last night to cheer the guys on. That got me thinking.....my old high school or county or whatever seriously needs to have an alumni game for charity, fun, again whatever! I would love to cheer again!!! (Again, can't even explain the excitement and smiles going on as I type right now)

Anyways, onto other things.....

Easter is this Sunday! Can't wait for X to wake in the morning and go "searching" for his Easter basket! Since he couldn't walk or crawl last Easter, I am really looking forward to see what he does this year. Pics will surely be posted in my weekend recap on Monday :)

Have you been to any interesting events recently?
Does your hometown or local town host alumni games?
Will the Easter Bunny be leaving you a basket this year?

Until next time....Have a great weekend & Happy Easter!

Random Things About V

Thursday, March 28, 2013

I love being able to connect with the writers of the blogs I read, so when they post random bits of information about themselves I get all giddy :) Some things they post are funny, some are odd, and some are things that make me realize they are just like me!

So today's post will be just some random things thrown out there that you may think are funny, odd, or make you feel right at home with me :)

Enjoy!

Dirty Feet - Let me first say that I adore wearing flip-flops in the summer, but I can't stand dirty or bare feet. I don't like dirty socks either actually. Every evening in the summer before I go to bed, I HAVE to wash my feet! I would not be able to sleep comfortably if I got into bed with dirty feet. Even if I only wore flip-flops for a moment, I must wash my feet! I am the same way with socks...it drives me crazy to walk around in socks with no shoes. And don't even think about putting shoes on with those dirty socks...YUCK! If I am going to a friend's house that I know I will be taking my shoes off :( and having to wear my socks around their house, I always bring a second pair of socks to change into for the ride home. I know it is weird, but it is also......so fresh and so clean :)

What are your odd pet peeves?

High School & Pro Sports - While it may appear that I enjoy college sports because I love filling out brackets during March Madness....actually I don't really like college sports at all! High school sports to me is the best there is! Crazy, but is what I believe. Most of those kids will never play that sport again once they graduate, but yet they still give it their all every game! Plus, it is great to see small communities rally around their local teams. A very close second to high school sports is pro sports. I can't say enough about pro sports, especially the NFL. I would be willing to give up all other sports in the world to have the ability to watch, go to the games, etc. for the rest of my life. I LOVE the NFL and I am a DIE HARD Cleveland Browns fan!

Are you a high school, college, or pro sports fan?

Friday Night Lights (TV show) - This kind of goes along with what I mentioned above about my love for high school sports, specifically football. While this show was only on 5 (short) seasons, I can honestly say at this point in my life that it was the best show I have ever watched! It always made me feel at home, like I personally knew the characters, like I was a part of their world. I know, you are probably thinking "this girl needs a life!" There was just something about the show that no other show was able to do for me. It just put my mind at ease some how :) Tim Riggins was just an added bonus! :)

Is there a TV show that had a big impact on you?

Goody Two-Shoes - To this day I have no idea how I ever had any friends in school or was remotely popular because of how "goody goody" I was! I still remember being invited to parties in middle school and high school and asking the following questions:

Are your/their parents going to be there?
Is there going to be alcohol there?

If the person answered that no parents would be there or if there was going to be alcohol there my answer was always the same....NO THANK YOU! Seriously, how did I make it through school this way? I have no idea, but so thankful I did!

Were you a Goody Two-Shoes or Wild & Crazy kid in school?

House Parties - While I love hosting events, I can't stand your average, run of the mill house party. There is absolutely nothing enjoyable to me about sitting around someone's house and drinking. I rather be out doing! If I am going to be drinking, I want to go somewhere! I want to get dressed up or whatever, I want to be able to dance to the music the DJ plays, I want to know I don't have to clean up all the mess in the morning. I know house parties make a ton of sense....no drinking and driving, little cost involved, everyone can be comfortable...blah, blah, blah. Maybe this one goes along with my "Goody Two-Shoes" quirk, but oh well. That's just me :) Unfortunately, as I get older (and now that I have X) I realize that going out is becoming a thing of the past :( BOO! I am slowly accepting house "get togethers" (I refuse to call them house parties) since X has arrived, and I do emphasize SLOWLY!

Do you prefer house parties or bars/clubs?

So enough about me...tell me your weird, odd, funny, crazy quirks!

Until next time...

Anything Goes Wednesday

I'm back! Did you miss me? Where have I been? Read on....

Weekend Smeekend! I came down with this stupid stomach bug that is going around and it ruined my whole weekend :( Thankfully X was at my in-laws all weekend, so I was able to just lay around and rest. However, I had so many things on my "To-Do" list and not one thing was accomplished. BOO to sickness! I was at my absolute worst on Monday and part of Tuesday....hence no weekend review post or Style Me Pretty Tuesday post. Fingers crossed I have made it through the worst of it and on my way to recovery :)

Did you do anything fun this weekend?
(Let me live vicariously through you PLEASE!)

So I have decided to watch "The Voice" this season. Here are a few reasons why:
  1. My dad and my brother watch the show.
  2. An acquaintance from high school may make an appearance on the show.
  3. USHER!!!!!!
  4. I love music, karaoke, etc...but have given up on American Idol this year.
After watching the 1st two episodes I can say that I am SO happy I switched from Idol to The Voice! I love the whole blind auditions concept, the talent is really good, and the coaches are amazing. Blake, Usher, Shakira, and Adam are absolutely hilarious! I could easily watch a show with the four of them going back and forth with each other every night! After two nights and only a 1/3 of each team filled, my gut is telling me Adam's team is going to win it. Can't wait for more episodes!

So what do you think of The Voice so far?
Are you Team Blake, Adam, Usher, or Shakira?
Are you watching American Idol this year?

I can't believe this weekend is already Easter and the end of March! (Where did the month go?!) As a kid every year we would go to Lakeview Park and get our picture taken with the big Easter basket full of eggs. I love tradition, so I am doing my best to do the same with X. Hoping the weather cooperates with us this Sunday and we are able to stop by the park to get a 2013 photo. Here are a few photos from last year...

 M, X, & V
 X
 Mommy & X

Do you celebrate Easter in a special way?
Any traditions you have carried over from your childhood?
I want to see your Easter pics! Post them in the comment section below :)

Until next time...

Weekend Reads (& TV)

Stuck inside because Mother Nature still thinks it is Winter?

Check out Audrey and her blog Putting Me Together! Audrey runs a close second, if not ties for first, with Kate and The Small Things Blog! She has completely changed my mind on how I shop for clothes. She offers tips on how to build a remixable wardrobe, starting your wardrobe from scratch, how to wear a piece many different ways, and much, much more! The best part is that Audrey usually shops at the stores I love (or at least can afford) like Target, Forever 21, and Kohl's! Meaning = When she features an outfit or a piece of clothing, it is actually attainable! That is a WIN in my book! Check out Audrey and her site today!

If reading isn't your thing, but it is still too cold to head outside...I suggest snuggling up on the couch and watching some NCAA basketball. As I mentioned the other day I just wasn't into filling out my bracket this year for March Madness. Skip ahead a day or two.....I can't stop checking out the scores and tuning into the games on TV! I had a feeling (more like knew) it would happen! Check out the games this weekend on your local CBS, tbs, TNT, and tru TV stations.

If it is nice enough to get outside this weekend....GET OUT THERE! I can't wait to do the same once it warms up :)

Until next week....Have a good weekend & GO Louisville, GO Michigan, Go Georgetown, GO Marquette, GO OSU!

Let's Get Physical

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Doesn't that title make you immediately start singing the Olivia Newton-John song? I know I am :)

I figured if I wrote this post it would some how make me start working out again. Honestly, I LOVE to workout! The more intense it is, the more I sweat, the more I absolutely love it! It doesn't matter what type of exercise it is either...just as long as I feel exhausted afterwards.

The last few months I have been a complete slacker in the workout department. I was doing really well right up to the holidays and then BAM! I just stopped everything. I enjoy working out at night, but when X wasn't on a good sleeping schedule that went away. Now that he goes to bed at the same time every night (for the most part) I NEED to get back to my workouts. The other problem I face is the cold Ohio weather! It has been way too cold to go outside for a walk or run, and unfortunately my treadmill is buried in the basement right now. So that limits me to DVD's. But of course, both rooms that have DVD players in them border X's room. I know excuses, excuses!

Enough of the excuses! It is time to get this 34 year old body back in shape! And I am starting tonight, or maybe this weekend...DEFINITELY tonight! :)

So my plan is simple really....I am going to start back up slowing by doing Yoga and Pilate's while the weather is still too cold to get outside. Then once the temps start rising, X and I will be taking walks in our neighborhood or preferably on the bike trail after work. Then when the temps get too high to be outside, I should be able to access my treadmill at that time :) Fingers crossed I will get one of the DVD players moved to the basement and add some P90X or Insanity to the mix!

Typing this post has already got me excited about working out again!

Here are some of my favorite workout DVD's:

I know that last one is WAY old and probably only available on VHS tapes, but I still love it! I remember watching Richard Simmons with my mom when I was a kid and had so much fun dancing to those tapes.

What is your favorite way to workout?
What DVD's do you like to use?
Do you go to any classes (zumba, step, etc.)?

Until next time....

Anything Goes Wednesday

Happy 1st day of Spring Ohio!

Right now the temperature is 27 degrees (feels like 17!)
Today: High of 31 degrees with SNOW flurries
Tonight: Low of 19 degrees with few SNOW showers

Seriously? Yes, seriously! This is Ohio after all :) On the bright side I will be pulling out my white dress pants to wear very soon now that it is technically Spring!

Is it truly Spring where you live?
What clothing item are you stoked to wear now?

Last night was the season finale of Pretty Little Liars :(  I am SO glad Spencer is not truly part of the A Team, and super happy that Toby is still alive! I can't wait until June for the next season of the show to find out more about Red Coat (Allison)! "Kisses ~ A" Love it!

Do you watch PLL?
If so, what did you think of the finale?

The Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament, or March Madness as most people refer to it, begins tomorrow. Normally I am super excited to research the teams and fill out my brackets before the games begin. This year? Not so much :( I don't like the breakdown of the brackets this year, there are a couple of schools I have never heard of, and I just have too much on my plate right now to get into it. I did complete at least 1 bracket to go up against my dad and my brother. I hope (and I am guessing) things will change by game time tomorrow. Once I see those live scores streaming across my computer or phone I am willing to bet I will be sucked right back in!

Do you participate in March Madness?
Who do you have in the championship game?

Until next time...

Style Me Pretty

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

With Spring literally right around the corner (begins tomorrow 3/20) I need to start shopping for some new clothes. Who am I kidding? I need to shop for new clothes no matter what season it is! One day (I hope) I will have all of the key pieces I am looking for to complete my personal style statement = "Fun & Cute with Polish". Then when the seasons change I will only buy a few pieces that are new for the season, but will still mix well with my core wardrobe. The unfortunate things about creating my personal style are you need funds to get you started and you probably need to enjoy shopping. Two things that I don't have that much of or like to do :( I am determined to change my mind about shopping, but still keep to a budget.

Items I am looking for as staples and/or seasonal pieces:

Cami's (harder to find than I thought)
Cardigans (navy, army green, coral)
Belts
Khaki pants
Dresses (prints)
Statement necklaces
Black boots (motorcycle style)
Patterned/colored flats
Pencil skirt
Red heels
Neutral wedges
White jeans
Brown dress shoes
Boat shoes
Tops, Tops, Tops!

As you can see from the list above I have my work cut out for me! :/ I am not looking to purchase all of these items at one time, but over the course of the year I would like to acquire the staple pieces and maybe a few of the seasonal/special pieces as well.

Now that I have my list of items, I need to figure out where to shop. I don't mind online shopping if I know how the store sizes fit, or if they offer free shipping/returns. Otherwise I am stuck going to the actual store to try things on :( With a 1 year old that is pretty much impossible to do! Plus, there aren't many shopping options where I live :( I love to shop at Target, Kohl's and Old Navy for cheap staples and seasonal pieces, but their sizes don't always run the same each time I buy something :( Meaning a lot of trying on or returning items....BOO!

Readers....I ask you these questions:

Where do you like to shop for staple wardrobe options?
Where do you shop for seasonal pieces?
Are there online stores that work for you time and time again?
What Spring items are you looking to purchase?
Do you have a budget when purchasing new items?

Help a girl out! PLEASE :)

Until next time....

Irish Blood

Monday, March 18, 2013

My Irish blood was passed down to me by my maternal grandma. Unfortunately, most of that side of my family only celebrates their Scottish roots. Because of that, I make sure to celebrate my Irish roots every year! And place an actual phone call to my grandma to wish her a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Being that my husband and X were still sick on Friday, the St. Patrick's Day weekend celebration was a little limited. However, it didn't stop me from dressing X in green all weekend and painting my nails the perfect shade of Emerald Green! This is what X wore to school on Friday:

 "This Is Why I'm Irish"
1.My Mommy made me that way.
2. You don't wanna see my temper!
3.Everyone loves me and they say everyone loves an Irish boy!
4. I look Totally Cute in green!
Green nails, old looking hands :(

On Saturday we took a quick trip up north and couldn't head back home without making a stop at Malley's Chocolates. It was X's first time there :) Even though he can't really have any of the candy yet, it was still great to see him walk around the store. Especially since I used to work at a Malley's Chocolates many, many years ago :) We picked up a box of Himalayan Pink Salted Dark Chocolate Caramels, some gummy Twin Cherries, and a couple other delicious treats!

X walking around Malley's Chocolates in his blue & green plaid shirt.

Saturday night we also tried a new drink courtesy of Pinterest called the Dirty Girl Scout. Again, a bit strong for my taste since it was all alcohol in it. I ended up adding a little bit of milk to make it more like a White Russian. That did the trick! It was YUMMY!

Since Sunday was officially St. Patrick's Day I tried to add a bit more color to the day. For breakfast we had green Lucky Charms pancakes (find the recipe here), and green milk or coffee. X was throwing back the milk and pancakes like it was Kegs & Eggs! LOL!

X throwing the green milk back like a pro!
Green Milk for both of my guys
Green Lucky Charms pancakes

Lunch time was just some left over pizza I had made the night before with some Shamrock pepperonis I cut out for the topping :)

Since I am not a big corned beef fan, I made Shepherd's Pie for dinner served with green drinks of course!
Green Pimms Cup & Green Cider Beer
 Shepherd's Pie=Delicious!!!
Mommy's Lucky Charm (with bedhead)

All in all it was another great weekend with my guys. Now if they both can just continue to feel better! Hopefully when Spring officially gets here in a couple days we will be completely done with the sick bug for good :)

What did you do this weekend? Did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? What nationality are you...Irish, Scottish, etc.?

Until next time...

Weekend Reads

Friday, March 15, 2013

In the past few weeks I have mentioned a few of the blogs I read and a couple of small businesses that I love. Today will be a combination of both of those.

I have wrote briefly about Kate and The Small Things Blog, but I don't feel I was able to detail all the great things Kate and her blog/site have to offer. In my opinion, she is a Jane of all trades :) She is a hair stylist/blogger/jewelry maker/all around great person! I feel like I have gotten to know her personally through her blog posts and videos. In a weird way she is like this great friend to me, but has no idea who I am. Lol! Kind of sound like a stalker now, but I swear I am not!

In my quest to find my personal style I came along some photos of hairstyles on Pinterest that happened to link back to Kate's blog. From there I found out these weren't just pictures, but actually hair tutorials performed by Kate herself, ON herself! What better way to learn how to try a new style, then to have someone give you step-by-step instructions as they demonstrate it?!

Her blog doesn't end there. She also offers tips/reviews/etc. on Style, Beauty, and even a Jewelry Shop that offers the items Kate and her sister Lauren (check out her blog: From My Grey Desk Blog) make for their Etsy Shop. Mixed into all those great topics are a few posts every now and then of Kate just being Kate :)

One more reason to check out Kate's blog (like you need anymore) is she is doing a blog series on blogging! If you ever thought about writing a blog, wondered where to start, etc. check out what she has to say here and here! Part 3 is coming soon and I can't wait!

I think I have given you more than enough reasons to check Kate and The Small Things Blog. It would be a great way to relax and enjoy your weekend in my opinion! Well, other than having a green beverage and celebrating St. Patrick's Day :)

Do you currently read Kate's blog? What other blogs would make good "Weekend Reads"?
Any fun weekend plans for St. Patrick's Day? What is your favorite green beverage?

Until next time....Have a great weekend & Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Once A Cheerleader, Always A Cheerleader

Thursday, March 14, 2013

"Red & Black, Cards Attack!"
"First & Ten, Do it Again, Go Cardinals Go!"
"BHS is Best, Oh Yes!"

The above phrases, or chants as we called them, were from my cheerleading days. Oh, how I miss those days! In my case....you can take the girl away from cheerleading, but you can't take the cheerleader out of the girl :)

I started cheerleading clinics when I was pretty young. By the time I was about 7 or 8 years old I was in organized cheerleading groups. It was actually called "Pom-Poms" at the time. Our group was called "Pretty In Pink"....can you guess what decade this was in?! We would sit on the bleachers at the Junior Football League games and cheer along with the actual cheerleaders that were on the sidelines. My friends and I felt like we were cooler than cool!

Naturally, as soon as I was old enough I tried out to be a cheerleader for the Junior Football League. I think back then you had to perform a chant, do a cartwheel, and do the splits. There were 4 teams in the league, so that meant there were only 8 spots on each squad. I was competing with girls who had already been cheerleaders for a couple of years! It was pretty much guaranteed they would make each squad. Anyways, I made it my first time out! I was so excited!!!!! Not sure if they broke it down where you lived in the community or what, but I ended up on the Packers instead of the Cardinals (where my best friends were). While happy I made it, I was so upset that I was away from my friends. Later on I would come to love cheering for the Packers and meeting the older girls I cheered with. Most of which I went on to cheer with in high school as well!

Fast forward to the end of my 8th grade year....It was time to try out to be a cheerleader in high school. Back then (which is, but isn't THAT long ago) everyone wanted to be a cheerleader. I mean everyone! The freshman squad had only 6 openings for Football season and 8 openings for Basketball season. The highest scores made the squad...simple as that. I believe almost every girl who tried out picked to cheer for Football and Basketball seasons. I still remember feeling so nervous, but excited that day. We were put into groups of 3 girls at a time, but you were mixed in with the older girls. I swear there were 30 girls just trying out for Freshman cheerleading! It was insane! I am sure you can figure out where this is going, but just in case you can't....I made the Freshman cheerleading squad for Football & Basketball! Unfortunately, it was really hard to watch some of my friends who didn't make it. It was like their dreams/life were completely shattered that day :(

Moving on (and away from the sad turn that last paragraph took)....

I was a BHS Cheerleader for Football & Basketball all four years of high school. It was probably the thing that made high school so amazing for me. I loved cheerleading! I loved everything to do with cheerleading! We either had to wear our uniforms, or wear our warm-ups (sometimes we had to dress up) to school for every game. That meant a lot of matchy-matchy stuff = Heaven for me! And there was a confidence I gained whenever I was out there cheering in front of a crowd....something I completely lacked in the every day world of school. To this day I still go all out when I am cheering on MY team. No matter what sport I am watching or participating in, I my attire, etc. has to match the team colors in every way!

Even after I graduated I went back to good ole' BHS and coached the Junior Varsity squad. I loved being involved in cheerleading again. I have to admit it was hard to have to sit on the sidelines and not be out there cheering on the team. And somehow cheerleading had changed in those few short years. The girls were interested in it, but the passion for it was gone. So after a year, coaching and I parted ways :(

I ended up returning to coaching, but at the middle school (junior high) level a few years ago. This time I coached for the local school district where I currently live. Dealing with 16 7th & 8th grade girls was rough! So many things were different from the last time I coached....these girls were too young to drive themselves to and from practices or games, they ALL had cell phones, and the maturity level was much, much different. My biggest problem was the lack of interest in cheerleading. I mean the sport (yes, I did say sport!) was a joke at this school. ANY girl who tried out made the squad because there was so little interest! Seriously? I felt like I was in another world! So again, after a year, coaching and I parted ways :(

No matter how far I get away from cheerleading, I will somehow always find my way back. Like the title of this post states....."Once A Cheerleader, Always A Cheerleader" :)

I will always dress in the colors of the team I am cheering for, bite my nails down to nothing stressing about the game, etc....even if it isn't my actual favorite team (Superbowl, World Series, NBA Championship, March Madness).

Were you a cheerleader in school? What are your favorite sports to watch or play? Are you a die hard fan of a certain team?

Until next time....

Go Cardinals! Go Browns! Go Big Lex! Go Indians! Go CAVS! Go Blue!

Anything Goes Wednesday

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

So many TV shows....so little time! I have 2 DVR's and ever since X arrived I only watch shows on the DVR in the bedroom. What does that mean? I have the entire final season of Fringe just hanging out on the DVR in the family room :(  Somehow I do find time to watch all of the following shows every week :)

90210
Hart of Dixie
Pretty Little Liars *
Justified
The Americans
The Big Bang Theory *
Modern Family
Suburgatory
Nashville *
Parenthood
The Voice
Fashion Police *
The Jenny McCarthy Show

That is just the current list! At one point I used to watch at least half of the above mentioned shows, as well as the following:

CSI
CSI: New York
CSI: Miami
Big Brother
American Idol
Jane by Design
The Secret Life of the American Teenager
Gossip Girl *
One Tree Hill *
Fringe
Desperate Housewives
Law & Order: SVU
Secret Circle
Life Unexpected
Friday Night Lights *

Thank god a lot of those shows ended or got cancelled! But like always I find new ones to take their place. I am such my father's daughter! :) What can I say, I am a TV Junkie....and I love it! :)

*Favorites
** Go to ABC, CBS, FOX, ABC Family, CW, or FX  to view episodes of (most) of the shows listed above.

So what TV shows do you watch or DVR every week? What are your absolute favorite "can't miss" shows? Is there a TV show that has ended that you still tune in when reruns are on?

This Sunday is St. Patrick's Day! Every year I try to celebrate the little bit of Irish heritage I have by making special food items, having a festive drink, and wearing (of course) GREEN! Still trying to figure out what foods I am going to make for the day, but being that it falls on Sunday I have 3 meals I can add a bit of Irish to :) I know for sure that I will be serving some green milk to X :) I also found a recipe here on Pinterest for green pancakes that have Lucky Charms cereal in them! Now I just need to plan lunch and dinner!

Any suggestions on Irish meals or drinks? How do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

My new chambray shirt from J.Crew Factory arrived in the mail yesterday and I absolutely LOVE it! It fits perfectly! Can't wait to wear it to work, on the weekends, etc. Starting today (through 3/19) they are offering 30% off of everything on the site! I think I found my new favorite place to shop :)

Until Next time...

Style Me Pretty

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

There are a lot of things I am interested in, but finding/improving/creating my personal style is pretty high on the list. Partially because I have to get dressed and do my hair and makeup every day for work/life/etc. Plus, now that I am a mom I want to represent X in a good light :) Since I am always working on improving and finding my personal style I decided to make this a weekly feature in my blog.

Style Me Pretty Tuesday

Silly me forgot to take any photos this weekend of the outfits I wore :( Both Saturday and Sunday I felt I fit my personal style statement "Fun & Cute with Polish" very well.

Bonus: Both days I was on trend with the latest spring colors or looks!

Black & White Saturday: I wore a white button down with a black cardigan over it, but left it unbuttoned. I then had on some Old Navy Black Skinny Jeans  and my cognac cowboy(ish) boots (similar found here). I carried my cross body cognac bag to tie the colors together.

Emerald Green Sunday: I wore my Old Navy Green Skinny Jeans with a sheer black shirt slightly tucked in (black cami worn underneath). I accessorized with some black cut out flats and my new black/gray leather jacket from Wilsons Leather.

I have also tried the following hair tutorials from The Small Things Blog:

I absolutely adore Kate and her blog! Can't wait to try out more of the tutorials and keep working on my personal style :)

What new spring trends are you looking forward to trying? Have you created any outfits inspired by a Pinterest photo? What hair and/or style blogs do you like? Have you tried any hair or makeup tutorials? Leave your comments below :)

Until next time...

Weekend Funover

Monday, March 11, 2013

I enjoyed this weekend with my husband and X so much I now have a "Funover"!

Definition of a Funover: Fun & happiness carried over to the next day

Friday night was very relaxing and low-key. Made a simple dinner and spent time with X before he went to bed. During dinner X didn't like that he shouldn't drop everything on the floor, so he decided to give us "The Lip"! I had to take a pic of it because it was just too cute!

"The Lip"

After X was asleep my husband decided it would be fun to try a few new "drinks" to kick off the weekend. The first one was called a "Cold Irish" (http://www.mr-booze.com/2012/06/25/cold-irish/). WOW! It was REALLY strong for my taste! I think it is supposed to be like a regular Irish Coffee, just served cold, but I didn't taste any coffee at all! The recipe is pretty vague though, so maybe next time I will adjust it more to my liking :)

We added some gold & green sugar to the top to be festive!

The next drink we tried was a "Pimms Cup"
(http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink5858.html). It was very refreshing! Kinda of surprised we have never tried this one before. I think it is a great spring/summer cocktail.

We didn't add the garnish to our glasses.

Saturday we hopped in the car and headed over to the Wooster area for some lunch and then made our way to the Smucker's Store in Orrville, Ohio.

Inside the store
My husband (who really wanted this pic) & X (sleeping) with the Pillsbury Dough Boy!

It was interesting to learn a little bit about the Smucker's company and see all the brands, flavors, etc. they had to offer. We were able to sample a few items as well: blueberry preserves, coconut curd, and banana curd. The blueberry preserves were so tasty that we ended up picking up a jar to bring home with us :) We picked up a couple of other souvenirs as well...

Socks for X & shirt for my husband :)
The final stop on our little road trip was to Lehman's Hardware (http://www.lehmanshardware.com/) in Dalton, Ohio. It was much more than a hardware store! They have a toy section, lamps, dishes, cookie cutters, etc. Honestly, I feel the hardware section was small compared to all the other items they offer at Lehman's.

All 3 of us were so exhausted from our trip that we took a 2 hour nap when we arrived home! Perfect since I was planning on staying up late to watch Justin Timberlake host "Saturday Night Live"! FYI: He did not disappoint!

Sunday was another road trip, but this time my in-laws joined us and we headed down to Columbus for the day. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a 45 minute drive turned into a little over 2 hour drive due to traffic and construction! Thankfully it was a very nice day outside!

When we finally made it to Columbus we went straight to the Cabela's store (http://www.cabelas.com/stores/store_info.jsp?pageName=042) that had just opened (some how we managed to get front row parking!).

My husband and I have been to a couple other Cabela's stores so we knew what to expect for the most part. Every store is a little different inside, so it was nice to see how they "decorated" this one. When I say decorated I mean what taxidermy they used :) If you don't know already, Cabela's is a big hunting, fishing, camping store. While we aren't exactly into those things, the stores are still pretty cool to walk around. Every now and then you find an item you might want :)

The shirt I picked up for myself :)

Our final stop on Sunday was to Matt the Miller's Tavern (http://mtmtavern.com/) in Dublin, Ohio. I absolutely LOVE the Dublin area! The food was very good (we had steaks) and the appetizer of Bavarian Pretzel Bites was delicious as well! One of the highlights (for me anyways) was the booster seat with buckle that X got to sit in. Meaning...we were able to sit at a big booth and he was right in between my husband and I! It was great! Wow, I am such a mom! Lol!

With all of the great places we visited, food & drinks we had, and don't forget getting to watch JT host SNL (for the 5th time!)....how could I not have a Funover today?!

So what did you do this weekend? Any fun road trips you are planning?

Until next time...
