Linking up with Andrea, Narci & Erika for...

What a week of ups and downs :(

I started my week on a high with my favorite caffeinated drink!
#caramelbruleelatte
Even better....it was in my favorite red cup!

Sunday night my favorite little guy fell asleep in the chair by 6:15pm!!!

Poor guy!

Monday evening the moon looked amazing!
I wish I cell phones were able to take better pictures, because it looked awesome from our front porch!

I worked from home on Tuesday which is definitely not my favorite, but the view wasn't too bad.
Anyone else feel that way or is it just me?
I am not meant to be at home!

X and I had to swing through Kroger and we of course had to look at the toys!
He found one of his favorite things in the dollar section...a dino egg!
It was a W for both of us :)

Unfortunately, this is where the favorites end.
Wednesday was an insanely rough day.
13 years ago this past August Mic found this gem of a kitten in the woods at his parent's house (now our current home).
He was only about 8 weeks old at the time and looked like something might have attacked him.
Mic took him in not thinking he would keep him at first, but end up falling in love with him.
He went on to name him Diamond..as in a Diamond in the rough.

I moved in with Mic a month later and was a little skeptical of having a pet.
I am NOT an animal person!
But just like Mic, I grew to love Diamond and truly thought of him as part of our family.

This beautiful blue eyed guy was even part of Mic and I getting engaged!
Diamond "gave" me my diamond ring and I will always remember that every single time I look at my left hand.

He was there through all the ups and downs Mic and I have shared over the years.
From getting married to bringing X home to moving back to the place Mic found him.

I absolutely loved all the comfy spots he found to sleep.

To me, he was so much more than our family cat.
He was my first baby.
He was the first living thing I have ever had to take care of!
Despite being standoffish with guests, he sure did love us.
He was always there to snuggle (yes, I said snuggle) when we were sad or upset.
He slept with us at night.
He met you at the door when we came home from work.
He was just the best cat/pet I could have asked for for our family.

So it pains me to say that we had to say goodbye to Diamond on Wednesday.
Literally, this was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.
I knew there would be a day we would have to say goodbye to this member of our family, I just didn't anticipate it that day.
Mic and I took him to the vet Wednesday morning fearing the worst, but truly hoping for the best.
Unfortunately, things were in the worst category.
He was having respiratory issues and his temperature was low.
The vet gave us some options, but all routes ended up in him being in more distress.
So with tears streaming down our faces we made the decision to put him out of his misery.

We elected to bring him home and bury him on the property where he was found 13 years ago.
I picked a super sunny spot so he will always feel the warmth of the sun :)
He loved a good sun spot!

We broke the news to Xavier after having dinner at his favorite place.
I wish I could say that telling your almost 5 year old that his pet has passed was easy, but it wasn't.
Right now he knows that Diamond has gone on to heaven and we will see him again some day.
When he gets a little bit older we will fill him in about him being buried in the yard.

I can honestly say that I never thought I would love a pet or animal as much as I love Diamond.
Nothing will ever replace him in my book and I am totally OK with that.

We love you and miss you Diamond!

  3. I am so sorry! Our kitty is 18 and a half , we adopted her from a no kill shelter when she was about 4. She has been sicker this year and we are not looking forward to what you had to do this week. My husband never thought he would have an indoor cat and her passing will be so sad. Thinking of you all as they bring such joy to our lives. I just found your blog and my niece is going to pharmacy school in Ada and interns at Cleveland clinic so we visited this past August and liked Cleveland a lot.
