10 Questions with Work it Mommy

Thursday, April 23, 2015

Hey Hey! It is time to play another round of 10 Questions!
Today my guest is Whitney over at Work it Mommy :)
I have truly loved getting to know her more and I hope you do as well!

Oh, and don't forget to check out my answers to Whitney's questions here!

Now on with the fun!

1. Favorite movie as a child? And now?
Oh my goodness, I had many favorites growing up but the ones I can most vividly recall are Land Before Time (I remember sobbing over Little Foot's mom dying, tears puddling into the arm of our brown La-Z-Boy at the age of 5) and as a preteen, Clueless.  I wanted to be Cher Horowitz in the worst possible way.  My favorite now would be Mean Girls.  I apparently still like high school dramas which is weird because in reality I hated high school (see Question 10).

I am right there with ya!
Love that Mean Girls pie chart!
And Clueless is still one of my favorite movies!
I always choose a teen drama over anything other type of show or movie!

2. Starbucks or Dunkin?
Starbucks, because they are on every corner and the closest Dunkin's is 30 minutes away.

3. Why did you start blogging?
I had the best intentions of documenting my first daughter's babyhood and well, that never happened.  I started blogging in earnest 2 years ago about easy and fun Preschool projects and it morphed into my Family's little piece of the web.  I never thought I'd be sharing so much of myself, I'm a pretty private person, but I love to write and showing off my lovely family is a bonus!

4. You are at Chipotle, what do you order?
A chicken bowl with lime-cilantro rice, black beans, mild and medium salsa, sour cream, cheese, avocado and lettuce.

I don't know why I asked you that question...now all I want to do is go eat at Chipotle! lol!

5. If you could live anywhere in the US, where would it be?
We're actually contemplating a move right now; my husband Brian and I are both born and raised Central Californians, and though we both love our state, the cost of living is kinda depressing and the no-water situation is getting desperate.  But aside from those two things, you can't beat Cali beaches or the weather!  So for now, we're right where we want to be.

While I have never been to Cali, I can only imagine how high the cost of living is there!
So jealous of the beaches and the weather you have!
But at the same time, I sure do love Ohio :)

6. How did you choose the names for your kiddos?
Baby Kinsey

We named our first daughter within the week of finding out her gender.  I had a master list of names I liked, Brian went through and chose his favorites, I went back and made a top 4 and then Brian 'assembled' Kinsey Olivia.  Boom.  In contrast, it took nearly my whole pregnancy to name our second daughter and even then we ended up having to make it up!  At different times without telling the other we had come up with the name Brielana and when we did talk about it, it was like the ultimate confirmation!  Brielana Kennedy also shares the same initials as her daddy :)
Baby Brielana

7. Oldest item in your closet?
I'm a little embarrassed about what I found to be my oldest item.  It's a Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban t-shirt from 2004 that I got from the movie theater I worked at in San Diego.  It's too small and stained but it still lives in the bottom of my t-shirt drawer, for how much longer, I can not say...

First, how is the oldest item from 2004? Seriously?
I easily have some old softball jerseys and such from when I was in first grade...we are talking 1986!
Second, Yeh for Harry Potter! :)

8. Favorite sport?
I show up for the food! Ha!  I'm not really big on sports but I do enjoy going to the occasional baseball game (Go Angels!)

While this pains me to read, we can still be friends :)

9. Biggest mommy success so far?
Being able to have spent the last year at home with both my girls.  It has been the most rewarding experience; from bringing home Brielana and growing to a family of four, to being able to watch her hit every milestone right before our eyes and seeing Kinsey blossom as a big sister.  Teaching Kinsey preschool and being able to "sleep in", and learning how to function as a one-income household.  This temporary SAHM- gig has been fabulous!  A lot of growing has been had, that's for sure.

Major props to you and all moms who are able to stay at home and make it work.
While I truly love X, I don't think him and I together at home would be a good idea.

10. Who were you in high school?
I was the quiet-until-you-got-to-know-me girl.  I actually hated my high school and ended up graduating early so I could leave.  But I do have to say, the best thing about high school was meeting my husband.  We had Spanish class together and it was there that we became friends- a whole 4 years before we started dating.

That is awesome that you met your hubby and became friends that long ago!

I absolutely loved getting to know Whitney more and I hope you did too!

10 Questions | much ado about Jenny

Thursday, March 5, 2015

It is Thursday, and that means we are Thinking Out Loud!
Today I am playing 10 questions with a girl I could easily call my new BFF in North Carolina, Jenny :)
Now let's play...

1. What is your favorite NC dish?

This isn’t really a NC dish but it started all here in my great state.  If you’ve never experienced the exciting moment of the “Hot Now” sign at Krispy Kreme being on when you are driving by, then you just haven’t experienced life!  Now there may be KK’s sold in the grocery store where you live but there is nothing like going to a KK store and watching the doughnuts ride the belt through the fryer and make its final trek through the water fall of glaze.  I’ve dreamed several times about sticking my tongue under this waterfall—like for reals.  I’m salivating as I tell y’all this.  It’s euphoric almost!  And the saying, “You can’t eat just once” should only pertain to a box of fresh out of the fryer KK’s.

I must admit, I am always enticed by that sign when going past a KK.
However, I am not a huge donut fan. And I really don't like glaze.
Can we still be friends Jenny? ;)

2. Where are your ancestors from? Do you celebrate that? (ie. St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest)
My father’s side is Native American, more specifically Lumbee Indian.  OK, now don’t laugh but I asked my sister this and all she could remember from my mother’s side is my grandmother saying “They came over on a boat.”  Now although I’m not related by genes to any cool celebratory occasions like St. Patty’s or Oktoberfest---I will never turn down an excuse for a reason to have a good pint.

3. What is your favorite drink at Starbucks?
Ooh, Starbucks--oh, how I love you!  I have two favorites when it comes to Starbucks and I rarely deviate from it unless it is in the Fall and Pumpkin Spice Lattes trump everything!  Praise the Lord for PSL!  Outside of the Fall time frame, my favorite morning pick me up is Vanilla Ice Coffee with non-fat milk and my favorite afternoon pick me up is Green Tea Lemonade Unsweet.

PSL's have my heart! Seriously, why don't they make them year round?

4. McDonald's or Burger King?
McDonald's--although it's rare that I ever eat there myself.  I will however swing through for a Large Sweet Tea.

5. How do you make your sweet tea?
Sweet Tea—or “House Wine of the South” is a staple in every good Southerner’s fridge.  To make: Boil 8 cups of water, Steep 4 family size tea bags, Remove bags, Stir in 2 cups of Sugar while it’s warm (y’all said sweet, right?), add enough water to make a gallon.  Next step is to fill a mason glass, add a paper straw, relax, sit on your front porch and invite your friends over to “Sit a spell”.  Said in my truest of Southern accents :)

Sit a spell? While I love the south, I don't know if I could ever get used to the phrases ;)
I don't even know how to add y'all, bless her heart, etc. into my conversations. lol!

6. Essie or OPI?
OPI.  My favorite color is Sweet Heart (a sheer pale pink).

7. What is your all-time favorite TV show?
Favorite all-time show EVER is Friends.  I have seen every single episode I don’t know how many times and even had a picture frame on my door at my old house to look like Monica & Rachel’s place.  Heck, I even had the Rachel hair cut.  Oh, and yes, I am searching for my “Lobster”.

Believe it or not, I only watched an episode or two when Friends was actually on the air.
I watched a few here and there in reruns, but have never been able to get into it.
But I totally loved the Rachel haircut! Monica's too!

8. Apple or Android?
Apple.  Although I'm not technologically savvy at all.

9. What song would you pick when it is your turn for karaoke?
I don't do karaoke very often.  And if you see me doing karaoke, rest assured that there is a lot of liquid courage backing me up.  BUT when I do, it is always--and I mean always Cher's, "If I Could Turn Back Time."  I have the hair whip and lip curl and everything.  It's a riot.  Thank you Jesus for sweet friends that have never recorded any of those shenanigans.  Oh, and yes, I did secretly want this outfit!

You are a brave girl!!!
I love singing karaoke, but I don't think I could muster up enough liquid courage to sing a Cher song!
And that outfit!!! I swear I saw she rocked that outfit not too long ago and she is in her 60's! Crazy!

And of course
10. Who were you in high school?
I loved High School!  I was a social butterfly and I believe it was during this time that I fine tuned my “talking a lot” skills.  I was fearless, carefree and never thought twice about trying something new.  Best H.S. memory was the Summer before my Senior year, my daddy surprised me with my most very favorite and dreamiest car ever—a white 1985 Volkswagen Cabriolet, just like the one in “Can’t Buy Me Love”.  I thought I couldn’t be cooler!  I even had a personalized front tag that said “Jenn’s Cabriolet”.

Your picture totally takes me back to high school! Love it!
Bangs were so cool back then!
And I am so, so jealous that you had the Can't Buy Me Love car!!!
As kid I would daydream about having the car when I turned 16 :)

10 Questions | Penny's Passion

Thursday, February 5, 2015

Today I want to introduce you to my Thinking Out Loud co-host by playing 10 Questions with her.
Her name is Penny, and she blogs over at Penny's Passion.
She is also the wonderful lady that sent me my Christmas Cheer box!
Penny is a fellow Midwestern gal, and just so so sweet!

1. Go-to date night idea?
Eric and I both love doing dinner and a movie.  We have a couple theaters by us with the big comfy reclining chairs – those are our favorites!!    I'm the girl that always carries a blanket into the theater and snuggles up for the entire movie.

2. Favorite recipe to make?
Any comfort food – hearty soups, roasts, you get the picture.  I also love making special salads.  Oh, and I also love making appetizers.  Hmmm…..I guess when I think about it, I love making all kinds of recipes!

3. Pink or Red?
This pretty much sums me up!

4. Favorite sport & team?
I favor all the St. Louis teams – Cardinals baseball, Blues hockey and Rams football.  If I had to pick one, it would definitely be the Cardinals.  Go Cards!!  Post season play is amazing and we are so lucky to have a team that makes the playoffs often.

5. Chocolate or Flowers?
Tough one – I think I lean more towards the flowers.  But if you really want to win my heart, get me the bucket of Garrett's popcorn!  I love the Garrett Mix which combines sweet Caramel Crisp with savory Cheese Corn.  Put some of that in front of me and I'm all yours!

6.. Favorite St. Louis dish?
Pork steaks – grilled with beer and bar-b-q sauce on them.  I can't believe the rest of the country hasn't picked up this cut of meat!  We have them mostly in the summer so all winter I think about how good they are going to taste when we fire up the grill.

7. Dress up or dress down?
I'm a dress up girl - see above.

8. Favorite holiday excluding Christmas?
It would have to be Thanksgiving.  I love having a big gathering on Thanksgiving with the fall decorations in place and a fire in the fireplace.  We have the standard Thanksgiving menu so planning is fairly easy.  When my son, Ian, was small he and my dad would go outside and build a fire.  They would then pretend to have a pilgrim Thanksgiving meal by popping popcorn on the open flames.  Great memories!

9. Rock, Pop, or Country?
Rock – and the louder the better.  I love going to concerts and being close enough to the speakers that you "feel" the sound bouncing off your chest.

And because I absolutely loved high school
10. Who were you in high school?
I was definitely the social butterfly in high school (and college, and now!).  If there was fun to be had, I wanted to be in the middle of it.  My grades could have probably been a little better if I had spent more time studying, but I don't regret it at all!  My best friend in high school was Linda – and she's still my best friend today.  Even though she lives across the state from me, we talk almost daily and see each other often.

Oh to have a team that makes the playoffs! lol! I and all of Cleveland would love to see that!
And those Pork Steaks sound amazing! I will have to give those a try this summer :)
But what assures me that Penny and I would great friends in the real world?
Her choice in music!! Rock, Bret Michaels, louder the better! Oh, we are two peas in a pod!

Thanks so much for playing along Penny!
