Music, It's What Moves Me

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Singing along to my favorite songs while in the car or when I am home alone is just absolutely freeing to me. Participating in karaoke has a similar effect, but also super scary at the same time (I do not like being the center of attention). I have always had a deep love for music....something again my dad passed on to me.

Ever since I was a young child my dad and I would pick out albums or CD's (dating myself here) to listen and sing along to with our loudest (and hopefully in tune) voices. We could make an evening out of it! It has always been an amazing time spent with him. Unfortunately, life has got in the way of getting to have those evenings with my dad. On the bright side, I have carried on the tradition with X. I know he is young and can't sing along yet, but it is so enjoyable to have that bonding experience with him. He has already given me indications of what songs (or even artists) he really likes! When he hears "Pontoon" by Little Big Town (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0O0nzkESTI) he stops EVERYTHING he is doing to watch the video and sometimes clap along! Of course I am singing along the whole time! :) Another favorite of his is "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJO3ROT-A4E). I think X's love of water has carried over into his favorite videos :) The best song to watch him listen to is the theme song to "The Big Bang Theory"( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X41bA4l-h0w). He actually "dances" and claps along to this one! It is hilarious and so cute!

I can't wait for X to get a little older so we can (hopefully) continue this parent/child tradition.

Here are just some of my favorite songs my dad and I always "Jammed Out" to :)

Scorpions, "Winds of Change" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4RjJKxsamQ
Shai, "If I Ever Fall In Love" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXNNVUuIDgc
Metallica, "Enter Sandman" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD-E-LDc384
White Lion, "When the Children Cry" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHZ79InLGRY
Bon Jovi, "Wanted Dead or Alive" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRvCvsRp5ho

We actually recorded the last two songs at a karaoke recording studio in Columbus! The Bon Jovi song was done when I was only 8 years old! I sound like a chipmunk in the recording, but I wouldn't trade that for the world!

Side note: My dad and I danced to Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" at my wedding. We were not about to dance to a song that didn't mean anything to us!

What are your favorite songs? Do you have any special songs that you have bonded over with a parent or child?

Until next time...

Wonderful Wednesday

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Welcome to another "Anything Goes Wednesday"....

Tonight I am meeting up with some of my family to celebrate my aunt's birthday. We are going to Red Lobster for dinner....odd for me since I don't like seafood, but I actually like RL. I am probably one of the few that goes to RL and orders the (plain) grilled chicken over wild rice with a side of broccoli. (I might be the only one who orders it since they removed it from the menu!) I must say it is pretty good! Anyways, it should be good time :) Actually, how could it not be a good time.....they serve the most amazing Cheddar Bay biscuits!!! My mouth is now watering thinking about them. Only 4 more hours until dinner time! :)

Is has been Dr. Seuss week at X's school (daycare), so each day has had a different theme.

Monday - Crazy Hair/Crazy Hats
Tuesday - Dress like a Rock star
Wednesday - Mismatch/Backwards clothes
Thursday - Crazy socks
Friday  - Favorite PJ's

Since he is only there 3 days a week, he only gets to participate in the MWF activities :( I will post pics at the end of the week of what he wore and his crazy hair :)

Still working on my new personal style statement, "Fun & Cute with Polish", that I posted about last week. I finally ordered a blue chambray shirt from J.CREW Factory last night....my first ever purchase from J.CREW! I have been searching and searching for the perfect chambray shirt and have completely failed until now. I DO NOT like to spend a lot of money on my clothes....I am so quantity over quality it is ridiculous! But I am trying to turn over a new leaf, focus on the quality of a piece, how versatile it is, etc. (Please don't let me down J.Crew!) Can't wait until it arrives!

Until next time....
