Workin' It Wednesday | Strong Marriage

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

Linking up with Shay & Erika for...

I am no expect in marriage, but Mic and I have been together for almost 16 years and married for just over 10 of those so there are a few things that we have learned together.

Here are a few things that are important in our marriage...

I think the biggest thing for us is communication.
We communicate well.
Sometimes, too well!
We tell each other everything - good and bad.
Yes, there are some hurt feelings and such over the years but at the end of the day we know exactly where we stand.
And we are stronger for that.

A side note from that is honesty.
We are completely honest when we communicate with each other.
Again, that means we may get into a few arguments here and there but those typically fizzle pretty quickly :)

Another thing that is important to us..compromise.
This one is key for us since we are complete opposites on almost everything.
We were both raised completely differently, came from different areas of Ohio, etc., etc.
So our views on how do certain things are quite different.
So we have learned to compromise on things.
Yes, there are things that we are a little more stubborn on than others but again things usually get resolved pretty quickly.

Laughter.
I don't think I could be in any marriage without laughter!
It gets you through the good, the bad, the sad, the mad and many more times.
We are able to laugh really well together :)

Honorable Mention
Mic and I met working together 16 years ago.
There were a couple of jobs in between that first one, but have been working together/owning our own business for the last 7 years and I wouldn't change it for anything.
Again, there are some frustrating days and we may be harder on each other than we would an employee but is the best thing for us.
We do have separate offices, but communicate throughout the day about clients and such.
And I get to eat lunch with him every day ;)

What are your tips or ways to keeping a strong marriage?
Anything else I could be doing?
